Open letter to the future

To the son who already lives in me even before he is born.
I keep thinking... will I be a mother one day?
Will I have the opportunity and nobility to live this love that they say is the purest in the world? I often find myself daydreaming, imagining what it would be like to hear a little voice call me mother, what it would be like to look into the eyes of someone who carries part of me and part of my story. This thought accompanies me in silence, as if it were a burning flame inside me. I don't know when, I don't know how, but I hope that one day God will grant me this miracle. And when that day comes, son, I want you to know: you were already loved long before you existed. Talking about you is talking about a dream that hasn't come true yet, but that already lives inside me. Being a mother is something I've always wanted with all my heart and, when I think of you, I feel that my life takes on a new meaning, even before I have you in my arms. It's as if my heart already knew it was born for this: to be your home, your root, your safe haven. Every day I imagine the moment when I will hear your first cry, hold your little hand and realize that, finally, everything fit. I hope, with all the strength of my soul, that you come with the eyes that I asked God so much. Eyes full of light, that express purity and hope, that keep within them the mystery of life and the certainty of love. May they be eyes that transmit goodness and truth, because I know that the look is the window of the soul, and I wish that your soul is infinite in love. I also dream that, when you grow up, you carry in your personality the essence of your grandmother, the woman who taught me so much just with her way of being. If you inherit her heart, you will have a serene strength that cannot be explained, a kindness that welcomes and a wisdom that guides. I want you to have the smile that heals, the simple way to make the world lighter and the courage to face life without ever losing faith. It would be a blessing without measure to see in you her reflection, continuing her light in the world through you. Son, being your mother will be the greatest gift of my life. I will be by your side in every step, I will be proud of every achievement, small or large, and I will hold your hand in every difficulty. I will teach you what I can, but I know that you will also be my teacher, because children have the gift of transforming their parents and revealing in them strength that they never imagined having. I wait for you with all the patience in the world, because I know that when you arrive, the weather will have been perfect. Until then, I will carry you in thought, in prayer, in my chest full of love. You are promise, you are hope, you are future. It's the dream that makes me smile alone and the reason that already warms my heart. And when that day comes, when I can finally look into your eyes and call you son, I will understand that motherhood is, in fact, the most sacred encounter between human love and divine love.
I'll wait for you, my love.
With all the tenderness in the world,
Your mother.
